METRO IN ROME

 
 
The Metro (Underground Subway System) in Rome

Met.Ro (Metro Roma) is the Rome metro service with: Line A (orange), Line B (blue) running through the city. There are ongoing rail works and delays can be expected.

Service on Lines A and B runs Sunday to Friday from approximately 05:30-23:30

Saturday service runs from approximately 05:30-00:30

Regional rail lines connect Rome - Lido, Rome - Pantano and Rome - Viterbo.

Animals on the Metro

Animals (dogs, cats and birds) may travel on lines A and B and on the first and last carriages of the regional rail lines provided they are restrained (in a carry cage or muzzled and on a leash). A full price ticket is required. Note: Guide dogs (seeing-eye dogs) travel free. 

Bicycles, baby buggies/push chairs and musical instruments

One bike is allowed per passenger, payment is required unless the passenger holds a Metrebus pass. Groups travelling with more than five bicycles must make arrangements (and payment) 24 hours in advance:

Baby carriages/buggies are allowed but must not block the passageways.

One musical instrument is allowed per passenger provided it is no bigger than 150x50x20 cm.

Roma has two metro lines (A & B) and the cost is 3 € per day, tickets can be bought at Tabaccherie (denoted by T) or at the metro station.

The signs in the station shows the direction of the train by last stop.

If you want to travel along line A away the Vatican (east), you need to go in the direction of Anagnian) If you want to travel along line B in the direction of the Colosseum (south) you need to travel in the direction of Laurentina.

If you want to travel along line B away from Colosseum (north) you need to go in the direction of Rebbibbia.

The two lines cross at the Termini stop and it is possible to change lines without exiting the station, a second ticket is not needed.

Subway (Metropolitana)
The subway, or Metropolitana, runs daily from 5:30 to 23:30 pm. (until 00.30 on saturdays)
- The subway consists of two lines:
The A Line (Linea A) which runs from Via Mattia Battistini, through to St. Peter Station near the Vatican then to Via Lepanto, Piazza Spagna, Barberini, Repubblica, Termini (where you can change to Linea B), Vittorio, Manzoni, S. Giovanni, Re di Roma, Ponte Lungo, Furio Camillo, Colli Albani, Arco Travertino, Porta Furba, Numidio Quadrato, Lucio Sestio, Giulio Agricola, Subaugusta, Cinecittà to Anagnina. It crosses the town.
-The B Line (Linea B) which leaves Termini (south of Termini) Station and stops at Via Cavour, the Colosseum, Circus Maximus, Pyramid, Garbatella, St. Paul's, Magliana, EUR Marconi, EUR Fermi and Laurentina. Also runs (north of Termini) to Policlinico, Piazza Bologna, Stazione Tiburtina, Quintiliani, Monti Tiburtini, Pietralata, S. Maria del Soccorso, Ponte Mammolo and Rebibbia.
